The Lord Mayor’s Ball 2020

On Saturday, 25th January, we were delighted to sponsor The Lord Mayor’s Ball along with our sister restaurants, SOLE Seafood & Grill and FIRE Restaurant & Lounge. The Lord Mayor’s Ball dates back to 1715. The aims to raised funds for different charities each year. Money is raised through ticket sales and an auction on the night.

This year, The Lord Mayor’s Ball raised over 100,000 for 3 charities – DEBRA Ireland, Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland and Hugh’s House. Here’s what these fantastic charities do and why they were worthy of support at this year’s ball.

DEBRA Ireland

DEBRA Ireland was set up in 1988 by families living with the painful, genetic skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB) who had no support and nowhere to turn.  Epidermolysis bullosa is a genetic skin condition that is classified as a rare disease. This cause the skin to be very fragile with any trauma or friction on the skin causing blisters. DEBRA Ireland drives research into treatment and cures for this skin condition. They also provide much-needed support to those suffering from EB and their families and provide nursing care directly in the homes of suffers.

Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland

Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland was formed in 1995 by parents of children with Dyspraxia/DCD. Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), also known as Dyspraxia, is a disorder that affects motor skills. A person with DCD has coordination difficulties which may affect participation and functioning of everyday life skills in education, work and employment. Children with DCD may find it very difficult to write, type, ride a bike as other educational and recreational activities. These difficulties have a likelihood of continuing into adulthood, which also can affect one’s everyday life. Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland helps raise awareness of this condition and helps create a better understanding of it. This charity ensures there are adequate support services for this condition such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

Hugh’s House

Hugh’s House provides accommodation to families of children who are long term-patients of Temple Street, Holle Street, the Coombe and Rotunda Hospitals. The house is run by a team of caring volunteers who offer their support families in need of this accommodation. Hugh’s House lifts huge pressure off of families having to make a long commute to see their ill children. They also provide meals to the families who stay to ensure they are provided with nutritious meals.

The Conference and Event’s Venue were absolutely delighted to help raise funds for these three charities!
